A professional basketball player was arrested March 28 over an alleged sexual harassment incident that took place inside a bar in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
Police report shows that the incident took place around 1:40 am when the basketball player suddenly grabbed the hand and kissed a 22-year-old woman inside the bar. It was in the bar’s smoking area.
“We were going to the smoking area, nagkabump kami, then I wanted to say sorry then he kissed me bigla.”
“I was so shocked, so syempre hindi ako naka-react agad. Hinatak niya ako and he kissed me. Tumakbo ako sa smoking area and told my boyfriend and sabi ko someone kissed me,” per the victim.
The woman’s boyfriend later approached the athlete to confront about the incident. The boyfriend described the man as very drunk.
“Nagulat ako yung girlfriend ko nilapitan ako, shock na shock siya, na hinalikan siya bigla. So s’yempre nakita ko yung lalaki kinonfront ko, kahit mas malakas siya. Lasing na lasing na po talaga siya. Pinakamalala doon hindi lang girlfriend ko ang ginanun niya.”
The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation which resulted in the boyfriend sustaining an eye injury.
Investigation by authorities disclosed that it is not the first time that the player committed the same crime, this being the third time.
“Ang suspect ay may kaso nung 2016 VAWC, 2018 VAWC, tapos nung 2021 ay kidnapping and failure to return a minor,” Police Captain Ibralen Jain of the Taguig City Police Women and Children Protection Section said.
The couple said they will pursue the filing of case against the player: acts of lasciviousness and physical injury.
The suspect and his legal counsel refused to issue a statement.
