The spirit of competition is on high as the City Government of Tarlac has conducted a series of sports activities – including pickleball, billiards, and volleyball – at the Linggo ng Kabataan 2026, August 1-2.
Linggo ng Kabataan is an annual celebration which seeks to provide leadership program, youth forums, and competitions showcasing young talents. It typically coincides with the International Youth Day.
According to Tarlac City’s social media post, the young residents have showcased their determination and cooperation as they seek to win the title in the competing events. “Hindi lamang ito naging paligsahan ng talento at kakayahan, kundi naging pagkakataon din upang higit na mapatatag ang samahan at pagkakaibigan ng mga kabataang Tarlaqueno.”
The LGU has likewise said that the activity does not solely focus on winning but also provides an opportunity for young residents to actively participate in local activities.
They added that they are gearing up for more intense competition and activities as the celebration continues for the month of August.
It is worth noting that Tarlac City has launched on July 28 its Tarlac City Grassroots Pickle Program which seeks to introduce the fast-growing paddle sports called pickleball to residents.
As part of the implementation, 14 barangays and eight schools were provided with complete pickleball equipment set – including one net with stand, four pickleball paddles and two packs of balls.
On one hand, Antique’s SK Federation President Kenneth Dave Gasalao has said that Linggo ng Kabataan seeks to mobilize the youth’s abilities, talents, and skills through redirecting their creativity, inventive geniuses and well-spring of enthusiasm.
He said that the activity seeks to encourage youth development in character-building and development activities for civic efficiency, stewardship of natural resources, agricultural and industrial productivity, and participation in structures for policy-making and program implementation to accelerate socio-economic development.
