DA Bicol prepares intervention measures for upcoming wet cropping season

The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Bicol Region has prepared a lot of intervention measures for the upcoming season which starts June, this is while the ongoing Israel and Iran feud causes increase in fuel prices.

Regional Executive Director Rodel P. Tornilla has assured Bicol residents that there is enough rice supply, as they prepare for the next production season.

“Sapat ang supply ng bigas sa Bicol at sisikapin nating mapantayan ang dry season production performance natin sa palay ngayong paparating na wet season sa kabila ng mga hamon dala ng giyera sa Middle East.”

Interventions include over 60,000 hybrid rice seeds which will be distributed to rice clusters, soil ameliorants and biofertilizers.

In the region, there are 370 rice clusters, composed for clustered farms having an area of 100 hectares up to 700 hectares.

Aside from that, the region is also set to distribute their budget allocation of P604,612,250.00 fund under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk. The amount will be given to 260,050 farmer beneficiaries where each will get P2,355.

Beneficiaries include 169,480 rice farmers, 50,970 corn farmers, 1,200 sugarcane farmers, and 38,400 fisherfolk.

RD Tornilla has highlighted that in the former cropping season, around 65,000 rice farmers who were members of associations had received support from the agency.
