Young farmer who sold coffee beans for P9.9k per kilo, featured on Eat Bulaga!

The young farmer who made history last year after selling coffee beans for nearly P10,000 per kilo at the 2025 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); has appeared in The Age is Right segment of Eat Bulaga!

In the episode, Mr. Rodyio Tacody from La Trinidad, Benguet, has shared his journey into coffee farming.

That is, at the age of 22 years old, he sold his beans to a specialty coffee company Equilibrium Philippine Coffee Expo for P9,900 per kilo. This has broken the previous record, and hence setting a new one.

His product received a score of 84.36%. This is a specialty-grade mark that offers tasting notes of lychee, tropical fruits, and florals that captivated both local and international judges.

In a Rappler story, based on La Trinidad Public Information Office, there is a deeper story of grit, innovation and vision behind Tacdoy’s success.

Tacdoy’s produce was a result of experiments with advanced processing methods like unaerobic fermentation to elevate the flavor profile of his beans. He do this under the canopy of pine and alnus trees at Aduyun Farm.

The winning was a symbolic turning point for Cordillera. The competition for highland beans has long been dominated by Mindanao but Cordillera rose to top in 2025.

The young coffee grower has bigger vision in mind – transforming Aduyun Farm into a learning site for young farmers, where knowledge isn’t hoarded but shared.

He said, “Farming isn’t just for old people. Youths are for now. We belong here too.”

Though he sold his specialty beans at nearly P10,000 at the auction, he clarified that specialty-grade coffee in the Cordillera does not cost that high.

“That price was for a competition lot. For regular buyers, we stick to market rates. Don’t raise prices just because of that one bid.” This, as specialy-grade coffee in CAR typically sells for P850/kg, and commercial coffee beans range from P550.
