Cebu sports enthusiasts get to see more sports activities, this as the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) resumed its operation following six years of dormancy.
Dr. Rhoel James Timothy Dejano who chairs the revived body has said that programs this year, which has P50-million budget allocation, will focus on grassroots sports development, talent identification, and stronger athlete support across the province.

He added that they would push for broader inclusion in its programs. In other words, extending beyond traditional athletes to include PWDs, senior citizens, and members of the LGBT community.
Aside from competition and entertainment, he highlighted the CPSC’s role in promoting wellness programs alongside sports development.
Paul Jake Castillo, members of the body, has said that they want to keep the momentum and do more for the athletes not just during their winning years but even after they stop competing.

Castillo stressed that success in sports should not be measured by medals alone. “What the commissioner should think about is the future of the athlete.”
He stressed that athletes should be supported after their careers. “What happens after their career – that’s what we should focus on, not just the fame.”
Governor Pamela Baricuarto has reactivated the sports commission this year. While oath-taking of newly appointed commissioners took place April 16 at the Capitol.

Immediately after the commission’s reorganization, the body conducted its first coordination meeting to discuss initial priorities focusing on expanding community-based sports programs, identify emerging talent, and strengthening athlete support.
The commission has been inactive since 2019 following the end of administration of former Governor Hilario Davide III.
