Singson, 84, arrested over cyberlibel

Authorities have arrested politician and businessman Luis Chavit Singson on Thursday, July 11, regarding a cyberlibel case.

The arrest of Singson was issued through a warrant by Judge Marie Gene Cecille Umali of the Regional Trial Court Branch 21 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

It stemmed from an alleged violation of Section 4(c) (4) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

While no other details over the cyber libel case have been revealed to the public as of writing, the court has set bail at P60,000.

Police records disclosed that Singson was arrested at his residence in a gated village in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City. He reportedly surrendered voluntarily.

He was brought to the police station for booking, documentation and other legal procedures.

The politician has subsequently posted a cash bond of P60,000 along with the required documents for the posting of bail.

He is currently on provisional release while the case is pending.
