Tens of thousands of student athletes across the country came together in Agusan del Sur with goal of bringing home the championship in sport events at the Palarong Pambansa 2026.
According to Cebu Daily, a total of 13,247 delegates are expected to participate in the national sporting spectacle, which comprises of over 20 sports disciplines in elementary and secondary schools.
Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr. has represented the President in declaring 66th edition of the games. Nevertheless, he sent a video message wherein he noted the significance of carrying dreams and aspirations of school and region.

“I know that by participating in this game, you carry the name of your school and region. But apart from that, you also carry the dreams and aspirations of your fellow young athletes,” Marcos Jr. was quoted by Inquirer saying in the video message.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Sonny Angara has said, “With each annual games, we open up more opportunities for our youth. With each delegation that marches, we remind them that sports can be a way to dream bigger, succeed, and serve the nation.”
The kick-off ceremony which was held May 24 was a historic opening – as Agusan del Sur had a vision which started 33 years ago to bring the country’s premier national sporting event for the youth to the province.
Local pride, culture and celebration were showcased at the Gov. D.O. Plaza Memorial Sports Complex.
The Philippine Army has made aerial exhibition, followed by field demonstration from young performers, parade of student athletes – which brought pride as they entered the oval.
Gimmicks, chants and performances were also witnessed by delegates. This includes mascots and colorful costumes – and each region have showcased their unique culture.

Governor Santiago Cane Jr., has said, “I was once an athlete myself, so I know how it feels to be given importance as an athlete. That is why we must continue to support our young sports talents and formulate sustainable sports development programs that will help them grow, excel, and achieve their dreams.” #
