P46.5-million cash grants distributed to 4k senior citizens in Cagayan Valley

Senior Citizens in Cagayan Valley have received around P46,500,000.00 cash gifts this first quarter 2026, data from the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) disclosed.

The disbursement of cash gifts to qualified senior citizens is a national policy under the Expanded Centenarian Act (ECA), this is in recognition of their contributions and in celebrations of their milestone ages.

This means, for each milestone years (80, 85, 90, 95 years old), they receive P10,000 each. Meanwhile, P100,000 will be provided to centenarian or 100 years old.

Data from the commission in Region 2 shows that there are around 4,353 senior-citizen beneficiaries. 3,514 of which are on age 80 and 85 or octogenarian (received P35.14-miilion), 806 nonagenarians (received P8.060-million), and 33 centenarians.

The distribution from February 23 to March 31 is part of NCSC’s commitment and assurance of support to older communities.

Moreover, NCSC II Director Dulceneah Lyra F. Dela Cruz has sent her message of gratitude to the local government agencies for helping them in the program’s implementation.

“Our partners have always been supportive and prompt in implementing the Expanded Centenarian Act. Hindi natin ito magagawa nang wala ang kanilang tulong at suporta lalo na sa logistics.”

Regional Director Matthias L. Malenab, meanwhile, has called for swift implementation of NCSC’s various policies, programs, and activities for senior citizens.

RD Malenab has particularly noted the importance of the Senior Citizen Centers (SCCs) in local government units.

This is a banner program of the commission – a facility of recreation and social activities, health and wellness services, spiritual programs, livelihood support, and volunteer activities for older persons.

SCCs, the agency said, is funded under the 2024 and 2025 General Appropriations Act.
