Far Eastern University is going to screen the GMA documentary Lost Sabungeros: The Complete Story for free, this is after the school had partnered with the media company for the special screening of the film.
The screening is under FEU Drug Abuse Prevention Core Group and will take place at the ABB 500 (location in the school) on April 28, at 1:30 PM.
“Behind the noise and adrenaline lies a silence we often ignore,” FEU says. “While the spotlight stays on the spectacle, there are stories left in the dark, families still waiting, questions left unanswered, and lives that quietly disappear.”
According to FEU, Lost Sabungeros shares a story more than what is seen on the surface, rather about the people behind it. “What happens when the gamble takes more than just your money?”
“A bet was placed. A life was erased. The silence is about to be broken. In Lost Sabongeros: The Complete Story, the truth comes closer to the surface.”
It could be noted that April 23 this year when University of Batangas (UB), Lipa campus has screened the movie to their student. This was under the SineMulat Film Festival.
Lost Sabungeros narrates the story of one of the biggest scandals in the country – the disappearance of over 30 sabungeros or cockfighters who have been missing since 2021.
It was made by the team behind GMA magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. It was initially intended to premiere at the Cinemalaya Film Festival in August 2024 byt was cancelled due to security concerns.
The dokyu, directed by Bryan Brazil, was eventually shown at the QCinema International Film Festival in November 2024.
From April 2021 to January 2022, at least 34 cockfighting enthusiasts or sabungeros went missing from various areas of Luzon. Most of the disappearances took place in Laguna, other cases were reported in Batangas, Bulacan, Manila, and Rizal.
The victims referred to as the missing sabungeros by the media sparked national media attention.
