A top official from the Department of Education (DepEd) has disclosed that the government agency is planning to significantly increase the number of non-teaching workforce deployed in schools, to ensure a more balanced and efficient workforce.
Undersecretary Wilfredo Cabral has said this at the National Employees Union (NEU) Luzon Cluster Assembly in Quezon City.
“Secretary Sonny Angara has a call to provide the same opportunity for non-teaching personnel. We are currently reviewing organizational structure from Central Office to school,” he said.
Cabral has mentioned the proposal for11,000 administrative officer positions, 5,000 project development officers, and 10,000 school counselor associates with Salary Grade 11.
Meanwhile, the agency is proposing the creation of Schools Division Office (SDO) Guidance counselor position with Salary Grade 24. The addition of non-teaching workforce and guidance counselors would bring bigger SDO offices by 2027.
“There will be equitable number of administrative officers in school. If a school is a mega school, there will be four AOs.”
Cabral has noted that DepEd was able to reclassify around 117,000 teaching workforce, and they are planning to provide similar opportunities for non-teaching staff.
In the assembly held in Great Eastern Hotel, Aberdeen Court, Quezon City on April 23, a series of technical sessions were made to strengthen professional capacity and institutional resilience.
