We commonly see content creators doing pranks, conducting charity, or imparting new knowledge – but a content creator who conducts solo clean-up missions? Yes, there are, but few.
A 26-year-old content creator and environmental advocate is making a name on social media after posting a series of clean-up activities.
According to Tarlac Today, Gabriel Luna Patino has had clean-up activities from the seashores of Davao to mountains of Zabalez, including streets in Manila. Gabriel has been into this mission ever since he was high school after noticing gradual increase in garbage in a place where he usually spend his time as tourist.
He has experienced cleaning areas – which includes picking plastics, sachets, old shoes, school bags, and sometimes bottles having urines.
“People can really throw anything, no matter how big or disgusting, kahit bote na may ihi, which just shows their lack of respect to the environment and to the public street sweepers who they expect to clean our streets, trails and beaches,” Spot has quoted him saying.
Patino has noted several challenges including lack of discipline, limited access to proper waste collection.
But behind this, he said, he has visited places which he admires – as they have proved that it is possible to have a clean environment. This includes Palawan, a clean and environment-friendly place coming from a combination of education, discipline, and effective implementation of guidelines.
As Patino reflects on his journey, he said change is not a result of a big project or millions of funds but on every person who finds a way to pick litters one at a time – a person who chooses to work rather than complain.
“Maybe the organization that I can do is not necessarily group people but inspire people to do it.”
