Philippine TV actress Maris Racal has surprised students and jeepney drivers with free rice and bottled waters along University of the Philippines – Diliman, as her way of celebrating her 12th year in the showbiz industry.
In a Threads post, the actress has said, “12 years na ako sa industriya. Happy anniversary to us mariestellers. Love you all so much!”
In the photos, Maris could be seen holding a placard with text “FREE BIGAS” as she provides rice and bottled waters to drivers passing by the area on Monday, May 18.
The gesture from the actress has received commendation on social media.
“It’s the thought that counts. Mabuti nga meron kesa sa wala at dapat maging thankful na kung ano meron,” one comment said, as the food items she has given has met with criticisms from netizens saying it was too little – around 5 kilos while other bloggers they say give up to 25 kilos – but many have defended her.
Another comment said, “Mabuti na lang po kesa i-bash maliit o malaki, at least nag-share. Alangang ubusin niya pera niya to please everybody eh kahit ano gawin may bashers pa rin. May masasabi parin ang mga tao, no contentment at hindi masaya sa buhay. God is good all the time.”
Maris has rose to prominence after being included in the runners-up of the 2014 edition of Pinoy Big Brother. Her breakthrough role was when she played Irene Tiu in the ABS-CBN romantic drama series Can’t Buy Me Love.
Recent updates about her acting career, she starred with Anthony Jennings in the Netflix rom-com series Sosyal Climbers – which went controversial because of leaked conversations disclosed on social media.
She was also part in the long-running Coco Martin-led series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
