DepEd teachers set to receive P10,000 teaching allowance

The Department of Education (DepEd) is set release P10,000 teaching supplies allowance, not earlier than the opening of the 2026-2027 school year.

Teaching allowance refers to the funds provided to teachers for purchase of teaching supplies, classroom materials, printing, communication, internet connectivity, and other instructional needs under various learning deliveries.

According to DepEd Click, the opening of the school year is scheduled June 8 but if to consider the expected release based on previous disbursement timelines, it is usually given on Mid-June onwards.

This, also, depends upon the speed of fund downloading and payroll processing in individual Schools Division Offices (SDOs) and regional offices.

The funds is subject to the availability, but DepEd ensures that this is funded, of funds and processing by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and DepEd field offices.

Per IRR of RA 11997 or the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, the following are personnel who are eligible for teaching allowance: public school teachers engaged in actual classroom teaching, ALS teachers and mobile teachers, guidance counselors, and school librarians.

Other personnel are industrial arts or vocational instructors, supervisory and administrative personnel performing teaching-related functions, and district ALS coordinators.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in a PIA story last year, has shared that the government has programs in place to reinforce greater support for teachers’ career progress and welfare.

This includes the P10,000 teaching allowance, up to P7,000 medical allowance, special hardship allowance and 1,000 annual incentive every Teacher’s Day.

“You here are the guiding hands and in your hands our nation’s progress is held. In your strength, in your wisdom, and in your courage, we find the assurance that our future is secure,” Marcos said.

The Marcos administration has also said that they are enhancing the teaching profession through the launch of the Teacher Education Roadmap 2025-2035 and the Education Center for AI Research (E-CAIR) which will help teachers adapt with emerging technologies.
