The Department of Education (DepEd) has condemned the murder of a 36-year-old teacher who was seven months pregnant, the educator was tragically attacked by riding-in-tandem suspects.
“We strongly condemn this act of violence and call upon law enforcement authorities to act swiftly in apprehending the perpetrator,” DepEd SDO Taguig City and Pateros said in a statement.
The government agency has called the death of Maria Elaine B. Valencia from Barangay Pawa, Langangilang, Abra, as senseless and an unthinkable act of violence.

Valencia, who is teaching at Gat Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, was shot dead at around 8pm on May 9, 2026, along the highway in Barangay Bumagcat, Tayum.
Police reports disclosed that the victim and her husband were on their way to a bus station, they were reportedly in a convoy with another motorcycle when the unidentified suspects, allegedly with their motorcycle lights turned off, approached from the left side and opened fire.

The husband that his wife has sustained gunshot wounds on the left of her body and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead before being transferred to a medical facility in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, where she was declared dead from multiple bullet wounds.
Four spent bullet shells from a .45 caliber firearm were recovered at the scene of the crime.
Gat Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, in paying tribute to the late teacher, has said she was more than a colleague, as she was a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration to everyone.
“Her passion for teaching and genuine care for her students and co-teachers left a lasting mark that will never be forgotten,” the school administration said. #
