In the competition, Joyce Anne Polido and Ma. Antonette Monte competed individually against over 150 participants from various educational institutions; which ended in them bringing home the silver and bronze award respectively.

Monte shared that preparation time was far from ideal – having to manage both academic responsibilities and faith. “I know I did my best and came with faith and trust in God. By God’s grace, I was able to step onto the national stage and finish strong.”

Polido, on the other hand, said the competition was between balancing uncertainty and stepping forward. “I remember what Dr. Carl said, we have to choose between our ‘kaba’ or ‘baka’. Possibilities in life have no end; what limits us is the fear of stepping forward.”

Polido and Monte underwent institutional and provincial eliminations which comprises of questions focusing on Professional Education, General Education, and ASEAN topics.

Thereafter, they moved to the provincial round, where the top three in each province will advance to the national level.

“Yes, there was kaba, especially given the limited time for preparation and not knowing where the questions would from. But I chose to give my best shot because baka nga naman. And it was worth it,” Monte said.
