Three Filipino delegates make history after successfully presenting and winning the equivalent of first place for their research paper aimed at empowering individuals to sustainable habits in their lives, international event held in Taiwan.
The Pinoy student researchers clinch platinum award with their study titled: “Refashioning Change: The Consumer Revolution Program.”
Students from a school in the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, clinched the platinum award, equivalent to first place, in the Asian Student Exchange Program (ASEP) 2024 competition. The event, themed “Net Zero Green Lifestyle,” was held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on December 28, 2024.
ASEP is an annual competition among schools across Asia and neighboring continents, aiming to strengthen international cultural knowledge and promote respect for diverse cultures among educators and students.
After defeating 11 college teams from various schools and universities worldwide, Giru Lauzon, Genevieve Velasco, and Kean Magno of the College of Saint Anthony (CSA) emerged as champions, bringing pride not only to their school but also to the entire Philippines.
Their success was made possible through collaboration with students from Shu-Te University, under the guidance of Dr. Joseph Anthony Narciso Z. Tiangco, an Associate Professor at the said university.
The three delegates presented their research paper titled “Refashioning Change: The Consumer Revolution Program,” a revolutionary consumer program aimed at empowering individuals to embrace sustainable habits in their daily lives.
“Through careful research and compelling visuals, CSA’s team demonstrated how consumer choices directly impact the environment, advocating for a shift toward more eco-conscious consumption,” it can be read on school’s report.
“The project explored the challenges of overconsumption and waste, offering practical solutions that can lead to positive environmental impacts. By refashioning traditional consumer habits, the team emphasized how each small change can contribute to achieving a Net Zero Green Lifestyle—an essential step in mitigating climate change,” they added.
The three delegates expressed their heartfelt gratitude to one of their mentors, Dr. Ma. Tricia C. Montinola, the school’s assistant director, who provided guidance and support throughout their journey—from preparation to the actual presentation, and even until they returned to the Philippines.
They also thanked their parents for the emotional, moral, and financial support that enabled them to travel to Taiwan and secure victory in the competition.
Their message to fellow students is to not be afraid to participate in competitions like these, as it offers a unique experience, especially in engaging with people from different cultures.
