“We made sure that our Kabataan sa Bagong Pilipinas are equipped with the right skills, knowledge, and confidence to help our struggling readers,” Undersecretary Edu Punay said, who concurrently serves as TBTP National Program Director.

Punay said that through these efforts, they are able to help learners to read, be grade-level ready, and encourage parents to better support their children particularly on educational needs.

Likewise, the DSWD official said that they are urging parents to consistently join their children as their presence helps maximize the program’s benefits.

He said participation incentive is provided to parents who will attend the program with their children, “On the other hand, kung wala naman ang bata pero present ang parent, accepted pa rin ito with incentives, pero syempre strictly encouraging tayo na bitbitin lagi ang child learner dahil para sa kanila ang programa.”

TBTP is a developmental and community-based social protection that seeks to help low-income families and college students while empowering them to be involved in nation building.

Through the program, the government establishes a learning ecosystem where college students and YDWs are trained and assigned as tutors to teach underprivileged and struggling readers in public elementary schools.

College students who are to join as tutors will receive cash for work assistance of P500 per day for a 20-day cycle.

DSWD in CALABARZON region, meanwhile, has distributed learner kits to TBTP beneficiaries. Package includes a backpack with pencils, crayons, sharpener, eraser, pencil case, notebook, paper, a mesh cap, a flashlight, a whistle, and basic items.

“Dahil sa mga gamit na ito, inaasahan namin na mas magiging bibo ang mga learners na makilahok sa mga aktibidades natin sa bawat tutoring program,” TBTP Regional Program Coordinator Christopher Mariano said.
