Users of the digital payment service GCash can soon link their Visa or Mastercard debit and credit card directly to their account and use it as direct source for payment on making transactions, thereby eliminating the need to cash-in first.
GCash has said that card linking would be secure through one-time password, and hence each time a user makes a transaction, authentication through biometrics or PIN is needed.
A FIDO-based authentication standard called Visa Payment Passkey will be used to specifically protect transactions, very purchases through fingerprint, facial recognition or PIN.
The president and chief executive officer of G-Exchange Inc. has shared that they are set to roll out the feature within this month, and hence, users can enjoy seamless in-store purchases even when a user’s wallet is low or empty.
“We are thrilled to soon allow GCash users to link their Visa or Mastercard directly for payments. As we prepare to roll out this feature, we remain committed to giving Filipinos the freedom to pay their way with ultimate convenience and total piece of mind,” Ren-ren Reyes has said.
He added, they are committed to continue innovating and building solutions that makes daily payments simpler, safer, and completely effortless.
With this, users can link up to three Visa or Mastercard debit or credit cards to their GCash account, set a default payment card and manage or unlink cards directly within the app.
Moreover, by third quarter this year, the company is rolling out a feature called Mastercard Pay Local. This will allow eligible international visitors to the country to link their Mastercard credit and debut cards to the GCash app and pay local merchants using their mobile phones.
“By extending the convenience of GCash to international visitors through GCash Link and Pay, we’re helping make the Philippines even more accessible while creating more opportunities for businesses across the country,” Reyes said.
