In an effort to strengthen the success rate to every Filipino learner, DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara underscored providing learners with clear pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, and technical-vocational careers.
Setting as huge inspiration, Switzerland exposes grade schoolers to career opportunities via Day of the Future.
This activity where Grades 5, 6, and 7 learners explore professional workplaces is something the education department wants to implement in the country too.
Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara highlighted the significance of industry partnerships and bilateral relations during the “Day of the Future,” an event hosted by the Switzerland Embassy on Wednesday.
“It’s a very intriguing and promising event,” DepEd Sec. Angara remarked in his opening address. The Day of the Future, an annual event in Switzerland, introduces Grades 5 to 7 students to various career opportunities through exposure trips.
Angara believes that the over 300 children participating will cherish the experience. He said that it could pave the way for the DepEd to organize similar initiatives in other localities in the future.
“I think the children who will participate, over 300, will not forget today. And perhaps it opens a path for the DepEd to have similar events in the future in different localities,” he said.
Following its launch last year, this year’s Day of the Future allowed selected Grades 5, 6, and 7 students to explore professional workplaces, including the Swiss Embassy in Makati City.
At a press conference, the Education Secretary stressed the need to enhance the Senior High School curriculum. He emphasized that the Department must provide learners with clear pathways to employment, entrepreneurship, and technical-vocational careers.
Angara also committed to fostering stronger industry collaborations to align education competencies with labor market demands.
Meanwhile, the Swiss Embassy showcased its vocational training initiatives, highlighted the corporate social responsibility programs of Swiss companies in the Philippines, and encouraged partnerships aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goal 1: Ending Poverty.
In connection with this, DepEd Sec. Angara also inked a memorandum of agreement with Delivery Associates Australia Pty Ltd, and Ayala Foundation, Inc. on Thursday, November 14, to support the implementation of the various agency programs and projects, and to reinforce the delivery of quality basic education in the whole country.
