First LGU-funded college in Region 2 to start operation on August

A tertiary education institution that is owned by the local government of Ilagan City, the first LGU-funded college in the Cagayan Valley region, will start its operation by August this year.

Mayor Josemarie Diaz has said that the City of Ilagan College (CIC) seeks to provide more opportunities for the residents and nearby towns.

He said, the school is focused on offering medical-related courses and hence produce professionals ready to serve the community.

Courses referred to by Diaz are Allied Health, Medical Technology, Nursing, Psychology, Radiologic Technology, and Information Technology.

The local chief executive has added that CIC also aims to provide quality education and as partner in the academic and training aspect in the society.

The new college is located in Barangay Lullutan and comprises of a four-story building.

A formal ribbon cutting ceremony and signing of a memorandum of understanding was conducted on May 4. It was attended by Mayor Diaz, and Adamson University President Fr. Daniel E. Pilario.

Likewise, it was also disclosed that the city government has allotted P100-million full scholarship grants for 6,400 student-beneficiaries.

Local colleges and universities (LUCs) are higher education institutions in the country that are established and funded by the local government and is supported by local ordinances.

The ribbon cutting and MOU signing coincides with 340th anniversary of the City of Ilagan.

Netizens, meanwhile, has shared their commendation for the newly-established academic institution. “Wow. God bless City of Ilagan, hindi lalayo para mag-aral mga bata, especially medical courses.”

Another said, “Galing talaga ng Ilagan City. Ang tunay na Smart City!” #
