Israel brings software that allows learners as young as 6 to learn computer programming

The Israel government has recently introduced a new software that seeks to provide educational computer coding environment which allows learners to learn computer programming concepts and languages – for students aging 6-14 years old

CodeMonkey is a cross-platform OS which was developed by three software engineers from Haifa, Israel: Johathan, Ido Schor, and Yishai Pinchover.

Here, students learn text-based coding on languages such as Python, Blockly, and CoffeeScript, including learning the fundamentals of computer science and mathematics.

CodeMonkey is supported by the Center for Educational Technology in Israel.

This was introduced to the country by Her Excellency Ambassador Dana Kursh and the people of Israel with goal of supporting DepEd’s efforts in bridging the digital divide among Filipino learners.

“Israel’s leadership in research and development is reflected in this generous gift, which includes the award-winning CodeMonkey software to help children coding skills,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara has said.

Moreover, the Israel-Philippines Digital Literacy was unveiled June 3 at Jacinto Zamora Elementary School in Manila, as part of Israel’s 78th Independence Day.

The facility features the CodeMonkey software. Apart from that, it also includes computers, educational books, interactive board games, and a dedicated learning space.

The project is part of the ongoing education cooperation between Israel and the Philippines.

“What you see here is a really digital learning center that is not just a place to learn. It’s a place to be inspired. It’s a place to dream. One of our teams will come to educate and interact with the children, and see and identify what other things they would like to accomplish,” Kursh said.
