A 12-year-old student from Bangag Elementary School in Lallo, Cagayan, is not a typical Brigada Eskwela attendee – because at a young age he does more than the ordinary, and he has big dreams.
John Michael B. Andres, as per LGU Lal-lo, has attended the nationwide schools maintenance week with his carabao. There, he plowed a portion of the school area which will apparently serve as school garden.
The 12-year-old student, as it turns out is an industrious kid who uses his free time to help his parents sell vegetables to his teachers. He is a son of farmer Robert Andres and barangay tanod Belinda Andres – both recipients of a social amelioration program of the government.

Meanwhile, he started raising carabo when he was Grade 3 – a responsibility he keeps doing until now. The carabao he had at school, named Gelo, is three years old.
He is also active in helping his parents plant and harvest their corn produce to help the family in their livelihood.
While being described by school officials as average student – they see potential. That is because they saw in him zeal and dedication.
“John Michael is an average student, pero masipag siya at hindi nagdadalawang-isip na tumulong sa eskwelahan,” Principal Lilia A. Tayanim said.

While that is, John Michael has shared that one of the reasons why he learned how to read fast was because of his passion for music. Through having videoke sessions, he learned to understand words and their meaning.
“Sa kabila ng limitadong kakayahan ng pamilya, may malaking pangarap si John Michael: maging isang Agricultural Technician balang araw. Nais niyang matulungan ang mga magsasaka tulad ng kanyang ama. Dagdag pa niya, nais niyang magkaroon ng sariling baka upang makatulong ito sa mas mabigat na trabaho sa bukid.”
As school opening nears, his mom Belinda has a wish: “Adyay kuma school supplies na ket awan pay.”
